Kindergarten Homework
Please read this list with an open mind. The only mandatory homework your kindergartener will have is a daily reading log.
The other homework assignments are to be viewed as resources. Individualized work/games will be sent home with both student that need additional reinforcement or enrichment. It is imperative that children have a positive experience and are not upset by the assignments. It is always our goal to create a positive connection between home and school.
Daily Reading Log: Children should read with an adult for 10 to 15 minutes daily. An adult or sibling may record the book title and log the date for children beginning the writing process. The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease is a great reference tool for parents. It provides tips for reading, ways to expand your child’s thinking and comprehension strategies. Listening to children talk about books is so much fun.
Your child’s reading log can be found in the yellow folder.
Math Games: As the launch of each math Unit your child will get a very simple game and newsletter to help you understand math vocabulary and have some fun. You will find these newsletters in your child’s home school folder. The games are to be played at home and do not need to be returned.
Fundations Folder: This folder will contain Fundations newsletters, poems to support letter sound association and handwriting practice sheets. This is homework folder is due once a week. This folder will be replaced by a “Trick” word folder after your child masters his/her letters.
